Science festival 2025

This year at the Fête de la Science, ITI HiFunMat reimagined its booth “Materials of the Future” around the national theme: Intelligence.

Visitors explored the world of intelligent materials. Those that we develop in our laborotories... but also those that are already part of our everyday lives. The composition of such materials — often involving macromolecules and polymers — was illustrated using beads and chains.

Participants were also invited to experiment with intelligent materials by creating their own photo-reactive bracelets or manipulating ferrofluids with magnets.

Of course, when it comes to “intelligence,” artificial intelligence is never far behind. Visitors put their perception to the test in our quiz “AI or not AI”, where they tried to distinguish real microscopy images from those generated by ChatGPT.

Finally, just like last year, participants could solve our puzzles to recreate the materials of the future.

We would like to thank all the volonteers for the organisation and animation of the booth, the Médiathèque Malraux for welcoming us, the Jardin des Sciences and the University of Strasbourg for the organisation of the Fete de la Science, as well as INSERM Est and the CNRS for their support. But above all, thank you Morgane for the organisation !

Science festival 2023

This year ITI HiFunMat returned with the stand ‘Materials of the futur’ to the André Malraux Library in Strasbourg, where we welcomed primary and secondary school students during the week, and all public during the weekend. As last year, the visitors were invited to explore the world of cutting-edge functional materials inspired by nature. A quiz game, specially adapted to the theme 'sports', was proposed to participants as well as manipulation samples under a microscope.

Science festival 2022

The science festival is a yearly recurring national event. It offers the public, kids and adults alike, the opportunity to discover todays science and participate, free of charge, in numerous scientific activities!

This year we were particularly happy to see participants of all ages and especially very young girls and boys who are already ready to take over!

ITI HiFunMat participated with the stand ‘Materials of the futur’ on the Cronenbourg campus. Here we invited visitors to come and travel to the heart of innovative functional materials inspired by nature. They would discover the heart of materials used in health, energy and the environment through amazing microscopy images, and test whether they were able to recognize which materials belongs to with microscopic images. They could then check the answers for themselves by placing some of the materials directly under the microscope.

In Mulhouse, HiFunMat members participated in the science festival on the stand of the IS2M, which had the theme "Fabrication additive et polymères". Here the public could discover all about 3D printing  and 3D pens, on one hand, and porous zeolithes materials for decontamination on the other hand.

School interventions

We value science education highly and therefore we applaud the jardin des sciences that proposes, all year long, projects in elementary schools, middle schools and high schools to promote science.

This year we aim, with the help of the jardin des sciences, to create a project to participate in their scholarly events. More news at the start of the academic year 2022-2023!
