Discover the column “carte blanche” written by two of our members, W. Drenckhan and J. Farago (Institut Charles Sadron). Since 2018 they lead this weekly column in the scientific supplement “Cahier Science et Médecine” of the French newspaper Le monde, in which they express their opinion on topical issues in physics (physics of traffic jams, arrow of time, etc.) or on general issues, such as the promotion of women in physics or the funding situation in France.

Throughout the year, the Jardin des sciences organizes outreach seminars with a link to current research or major social issues. HifunMat members have participated in these seminars in the past. Stay tuned for more news.

They have also participated in webcasts. Discover the Youtube channel “Webcast Alsace”: Science on tourne ! created in association with Nef des sciences of the university Haute Alsace.

Recently fruitful art projects have been born between researchers and artists. Together they bind their strengths to propose workshops for the public. For example, C. Ecoffet from the IS2M is associated with the research group “Reflective Interaction” of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSADLab, Paris) and involved in the international project “Behavioral matter” which proposes hands-on workshops on bioinspired materials in art and design.

The ICS has developed together with art designers, the interactive game “Château d’eau” (the water castle) using multiscale material design to exploit super hydrophobic surfaces. The game was selected as one of nine items to represent France at the international “Triennale of Milan” in 2019.

The LIMA led the creation of two games. The first game, developed by Ravensburger for young children, is the “Magic Chemistry Experiment Kit”. The second game is called “Chemline”, and is an educational tool for teaching chemistry and in particular the periodic table at high schools and the classes préparatoires.
